Editorial Reboot (2024)
It’s been a strange time at The Palace. We’ve been quiet for a couple of years. Maybe you noticed, if you follow what we do. What sad years these have been, and in many ways continue to be. Years of coping with a lingering global pandemic recovery; cruel and devastating wars; unhinged racism; surging global extremism; political greed, division, and hate; ongoing environmental depletion and collapse; and so much more. We’ve all been on our own to figure out how to get through it all, to find what works for each of us — to not get sick, not die, not lose hope, and not give up.
So, here we are at The Palace beginning again in 2024 — reflecting on our moments of small good news, but grieving for all we’ve lost, all we’re still losing — with more of everything ahead. We want to thank the artists who’ve waited patiently for us to emerge from our shock to once again write about their amazing music.
We never stopped loving you or playing your records at The Palace. In fact, these records we write about here now — even as late as we are — kept us going, small reminders that we can still create together and care for one another in hard times, even from a place of total uncertainty. May our collective defiance — our punk rebellion for kindness and compassion — be our resistance. Keep making. Stay safe. Be kind. Peace.
Special thanks to Nick Rennis and Evie Opp of The Business, for helping me keep my faith in music — again and again and again. Bless you.
