Remembering the dead
Angels, wandering, alone & with friends, broken & confused & unwanted, wide awake & sleepy & asleep, euphoric, terrified, child, in flight & trapped, shadow, number on numb stone, drowsy lamb, feared wolf, loving & loved & unloved, hollow, full, singing into low darkness, mute, possessed beyond reason, mother & father & the childless, recorded, forgotten, cherished, nameless & famous, poet, worshipped, illiterate, wounded & wounding, drowned, still, photographed, the innocent & the guilty, the beautiful & not beautiful, giver & diviner, thief, the barely here & the last to leave, frightened, denying, the weary & the rested, the finished & the just begun, slave, builder, planter, maid, harvester, the practicing & the knowing, believer, pagan, nothing, the drunken angry seer, the peaceful sweet, virgin, lover, wife, husband, bright diamond & tarnished bystander, the chosen, wise, outcast, forgotten junkie, wealthy, the worldly & the shrewd & the naive & the lost, angels, all
(From my notebook. For Kate, brave Midwestern friend & summer rose, you will be remembered. Always.)
